Experiment Logbook

Natural pigments, paper pulps, and plant dyes

Each experiment is documented here: successes, failures, surprises. I work with local materials from Guadeloupe, and sometimes with fibres and pigments brought from other territories.

🌿 Aloe study – Ultramarine and brick red pigments

natural painting techniques on diverse papers

Materials: ultramarine and brick red earth pigments, Basic watercolor paper, coffee filter, banana fiber paper

Techniques: Caseine, Homemade Watercolor, Tempera

Status: In progress

Next step: Testing on my own papers !

🤎 Brown cotton from Louisiana

Brown cotton paper

Materials: Brown cotton fibres, Lokta fiber paper

Techniques : Inclusion of Brown Cotton on Self made lokta paper during my first training at artpaper.com

What happened: The fibres were difficult to work without specific textile tools, but I liked the result.

Next step: Turn the fibers into Paper !

❤️ Madder / Garance – Red dye experiment

Madder root dye

Materials: Madder root, aluminium pot, rainwater, recycled paper pulp

🎨 Local pigments (Guadeloupe) – Roucou, indigo, Lockwood

roucou or anato, guadeloupe local pigment

Status: Ongoing during the odyssey

Each experiment will have its own detailed page during the odyssey – with full process, materials list, and what I learned.
